You can rely on your gut instinct, or intuition, when making decisions about parenting. No one knows your baby’s needs better than you, so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. You’ll learn as you go, and the important thing is that you are there for them.

3. Get some sleep

For new parents, the amount of sleep they get each 24 hours is most important. As many know, with a new baby in the home, it can be difficult to get any sleep at all. New parents need to find ways to include sleep in the baby’s schedule. One way to get some time to recover with sleep is by asking friends and family to watch the baby while the parents nap.

4. Enlist help from loved ones

As a new parent, you have a lot of pressure to take care of your new baby. With all the time you need to spend with them, it’s natural that you want to limit the number of visitors. Having a visitor who won’t listen to your gentle requests is not time for politeness. Be firm.

Regardless of what you choose to do at this point in life, it is important that you prioritize your needs and how they affect your home environment. If someone makes too many visits or is disrespectful in a way that affects your mood or lifestyle, sending them home may be the best decision.

6. Learn to swaddle and soothe your baby

It’s always a joy when you bring your new baby home. However, it can be a challenge learning how to swaddle and soothe them.

Swaddling is one of the most effective ways of soothing your new baby and helping them feel safe and secure. Not only does it help your new baby sleep better, but it also decreases the risk of SIDS by up to 50%.

How to do it: With the baby lying on one corner of the blanket, like at the top point of a diamond, take the bottom point and pull it up over the baby’s front like you are making a little sack for their feet, making sure to keep it below their chin and neck. Then, take the right-side point and pull it up over the baby and tuck it under their left shoulder. Take the left-hand point and tuck it under their right shoulder. Make sure to tuck in any loose fabric around their neck, so they are fully wrapped up like a little burrito. There should not be any loose fabric around them.

7. Your baby will cry

It is normal for babies to cry. The most common reasons are hunger, wetness, tiredness, and not feeling well. Diarrhea or fever also cause them to be more irritable than usual. Call your doctor if the crying won’t stop or if it is because of an injury.

Some babies want to be held all the time because they feel safer when they are close to their mother or father. This makes your day more tiring, but it also helps you bond with your baby, which is very important in the early years of life.

But take a few minutes each day and write something small in your journal. It could be an event from the day or a memory from your childhood. This helps you connect with your past memories and live in the moment with your child.
